Wassail 2023 Cancellation :-(

We’re very sorry to say that we have had to cancel the 2023 Wassail. This is for a variety of reasons, and we apologise for having to let so many people down, especially the wonderful dancers, mummers, musicians and other performers who have turned out in all weathers over the years.

Fingers crossed we can be back for 2024. Thank you for your support.

And Then There Were Five!

And now Stroud Subscription Rooms have agreed to be a co-host for the day. So with the Subs joining the Museum in the Park, Stroud Farmers Market, Five Valleys Shopping Centre and St Laurence church, we now have five fantastic performance venues for the day and for the evening. Waes hael – we’re coming back!

Don’t Look Now, But….

Morris men a-Wassailing, (c) Alison Merry, Merry Illuminations

….we’re coming back! Put 14 January 2023 in your diaries, as the Wassail is going to be back in town. Big thanks to Stroud Farmers Market, Stroud Five Valleys Centre, Stroud’s Museum in the Park and St Laurence Parish Church for throwing caution to the winds and signing up as performance venues. Waes hael!

Stroud Wassail

We’re really sorry to announce that because of the Covid situation we will not be holding our annual Wassail festival in January as planned

Stay safe, keep warm and a merry Wassail season to you all!

What’s On and Where

Here’s the final performance timetable for Saturday. So much to choose from! (Open the image in a new tab to get a better view.)

Mummers on the Loose

The Stroud Wassail Mummers will be out and about over the next couple of weeks before the Big Day. Here’s where to go (or to avoid, depending on your point of view).

Meanwhile at St Laurence….

…. there’s a full programme of exciting events!

Ale House Session

Just heard that there will be more fun to be had on Wassail Day. Five Valleys music sessions will be running a session at the Ale House between 2p.m. and 5p.m. Just bring your fiddle, flute or banjo and join in!

Good Write-up (Shame About the Apples)

Well, we made it into The Observer today. Not bad, eh? Here’s hoping that the hordes of people who descend on Stroud when they read this won’t be disappointed to find out that we don’t do apple wassailing. But there’ll be plenty of other things for them to enjoy.

Hooray for Bollywood!

We’ve got another exciting event on offer on 11 January – add a bit of Bollywood magic to your day by attending Aparna’s workshop in the Subs ballroom. No need to book – just turn up and have some fun. Aparna will also be performing at St Laurence church at 10.30 and at the Museum at 3.00.
